Dolomite is dolomitic limestone, made of a combination of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate that neutralises acidity in soils. It is a rich source of calcium and magnesium, important nutrients for plant health. By making soils more alkaline Mudgee Dolomite unlocks many essential minerals, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, calcium, magnesium and and most trace nutrients , making them available to plants  to boost growth.

Dolomite works to neutralise soil acidity faster than calcium carbonate alone due its magnesium content. It provides longer-term pH adjustment and buffering to improve pH stability  because of its magnesium component. Late veterinarian Pat Coleby made Mudgee Dolomite famous as her preferential dolomite in her livestock and animal licks. It is ground to a fine powder and is relatively soft for a dolomitic rock.
