Pickling lime food grade powder has many uses. Some include the following:
clarifying
raw juice, pickling foods and the most important ingredient in making
corn tortillas. This product is food grade from Belgium and is designed
to be used in food production. Care should always be taken when using
this food ingredient in the powdered form. See the below warnings and

Calcium hydroxide, traditionally called slaked lime, is a compound with the chemical formula Ca(OH)2. It is a white powder obtained when calcium oxide (called lime or quicklime) is mixed, or “slaked,” with water.
It has many names including: hydrated lime, builders lime, slack lime,
cal, edible lime, and pickling lime. It has a low toxicity and is useful
for many applications. Hydrated
lime is a dry powder obtained by treating quicklime with sufficient
water to satisfy its chemical affinity for water, thereby hydrating the
oxides into hydroxides. Hydrated lime, though only slightly soluble in
water, forms suspensions easily; the resulting solution and suspension is strongly alkaline, possessing a pH of 12.4.

Used as:

• A calcium and pH/ carbonate buffer for Seawater aquariums.
• Fungicide. When combined with copper sulphate, it makes a Bordeaux mixture used in vineyards in France to fight fungi and mildew.
• A natural alkaline Insecticide: Kills most crawling insects upon contact, including ticks, fleas, beetles and grubs.
• Entheogenic catalyst in Yopo snuffs, rustica ceremonial tobacco, gambir, chewing coca leaves, and when chewing “betel nut.” It increases the availability of naturally-occurring alkaloids in certain plants. In Afghanistan, slaked lime is added to tobacco and wood ash to make naswar.
• Processing water for alcoholic beverages.
• A substitute for Lye in making soap.
• For making Norwegian Lutefisk.
• As the rising ingredient in Indian flatbread known as papadam.
  
• In Native American traditions, slaked lime is called cal and has been added to corn for centuries; it increases the B vitamin absorbability.
• Added to acid soils in agriculture and gardening to balance the pH or create alkaline soil.
• Treating foxing in books.

  discovered accidentally that it is quite effective at cleaning tarnish
  off of old silverware. However, do not mix with aluminum!
